Wake Up Call

Updated: Nov 19

Consider this, do you hop out of bed in the morning ready to tackle the day? Or do you push the snooze trying to squeeze out every last drop of time before you HAVE to get up? When I meet my fiancé senior year of college, she had a “real job.” On the subway by 7:45 to make it to 32nd street by 8:15. Where was I? Hidden deep in my covers, avoiding my responsibilities.

Flash forward to post-college life. It was always astounding to me that I could get up at 6 on the weekend, but once the work week started, my mind turned off, and the only solution was to stay in bed, to hide. You see, the whole time, it wasn’t me. It wasn’t “I’m not a morning person,” “I do my best work at night.” I realize now those were excuses. The underlying issue? I hated my job.

Despite the number of physical doors this pandemic has shut, it has also opened doors some people would have never imagined themselves stepping through. I am one of those people. Throughout the pandemic, I found myself setting the alarm earlier and earlier. I am building something bigger than me. Something that requires my attention around-the-clock. Sleep? I can do that from my yacht.

Consider this, do you hop out of bed in the morning ready to tackle the day? Or do you push the snooze trying squeeze out every last drop of time before you HAVE to get up? Me? My alarm goes off at 6:30 every morning. I hop out of bed with a smile on my face, excited to start the day. Ready to take on the tasks for the day. Ready to impress me.
